TASANOC appoints Chef de Mission for 2026 Commonwealth Games

The Tonga Sports Association & National Olympic Committee (TASANOC)(which also serves as the Tonga Commonwealth Games Association) is proud toannounce the appointment of Roman Vaihu as Chef de Mission for Tonga’s delegation to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, 23 July - 2 August 2026.

In this prestigious leadership role, Mr Vaihu will lead the Tonganteam to the world stage, managing all aspects of its participation, from traveland logistics, to athlete welfare and performance support.

As the key link between athletes, officials, and Games organizers, he will ensure Tonga’s presence in Glasgow is both seamless and distinguished, while representing the nation at ceremonies and official events with pride.

Mr Vaihu brings a proven record of commitment to Tongan sport. He led the newly formed Tonga National Men’s Netball team to Fiji as its captain for adebut invitational tournament — a historic achievement that opened doors for many local athletes.

He also serves on TASANOC’s Executive Board, where his leadership and commitment continue to strengthen Tonga’s sporting future.

Beyond the sporting arena, Mr Vaihu is a highly respected legal professional as Chief Executive Officer of Tonga’s Office of the Ombudsman.

TASANOC Secretary General and CEO Netina Latu Vea said Mr Vaihu’s dual expertise in governance and sport perfectly positions him to guide Tonga’s athletes as they prepare to compete with discipline, talent and pride at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
